Spring Has Almost Sprung! 🌷📚

The shrubs are daring to push new leaf buds out while the daffodils and tulips get ready to do their spring flower shows. We had a major ice storm last month that damaged some usually hardy plants. I’m waiting for a couple of them to decide if they’re dead or alive before I replace them. I love growing things, which explains why my front yard has more plants than any other lawn on the street. My green thumb is a direct descendant from my mom and her mom.

I can’t bear to throw a living thing into the trash, even if a plant is misbehaving or I have too many of something. Sometimes my sister doesn’t even want my offerings even though she has 10 acres in the country and in theory has room. So I close my eyes and quickly toss the offending plant in the alley can and run away before I change my mind. So I can plant something new. I’m thinking of trying honeysuckle or Thai jasmine on my pergola…

I hope you are enjoying reading, perhaps with a cup of tea or a chai latte to warm you up, until spring pokes its head around the corner. I just finished an old novel by Donna Leon, who writes the series with Commisario Guido Brunetti, a detective in Venice. I enjoy her style but could never emulate her. I’ll just read her books instead. Having been to Venice a few years ago, I can picture Brunetti as he rides the canal “taxis” or negotiates the narrow streets of the city. I love his style of interrogation. He is observant in the style of Sherlock Holmes, much like a doctor has to be (or should be, in my opinion). And of course the author of those novels was a physician.

Until next time, happy reading!
