My First Piece of Fan Mail and a Reading Rec! 🔎📚🌼

Remember the movie “You’ve Got Mail?” I recently received an email from a reader that struck a chord more than the typical reader email. It felt like FAN MAIL and lifted me the whole rest of the day.

It made me ask myself what was different about it. I realized it was the fact that this reader took a specific incident in Killer Flowers and related it to an experience of his own. I then responded with another related story.

It strikes me that the books and novels we read are made up of many incidents and actions that the author links together to make a bigger story than any one of those individual moments could create by itself. We draw from personal experiences, news articles, things we observe on a day to day basis and so on. We then weave it all together into something that we hope will entertain or inform (or both!) our readers.

In retrospect, I’ve been making up stories since junior high school English. I still recall a couple of assignments that I penned in Freshman college English that were read aloud by the Professor as good examples of whatever approach she had assigned that week. At the time I wanted to crawl under my desk and become invisible (shyness is my middle name) but her acknowledgement of my work sticks with me.

Anyway, I will be releasing the third book in my Christie’s Flower Shoppe mysteries by summer time. I’m working on the cover now for Killer Anniversary and will share it with you soon. And I’m mulling over ideas for book four. Does anybody believe in ghosts?

Until next time, happy reading!
