Marching to the Beat of Your Own Drum
My older sister took me to Sunday School with her every week. On one occasion, when I was about 3 ยฝ and she was 10, she announced that she wasnโt going to take me ever again. When our mother asked her to explain why not, she said it was because everyone else was singing โJesus Loves Meโ and I was singing โIrene, Good Night.โย
Apparently Iโve been marching to an offbeat drummer for most of my life. When I was old enough to earn money (picking strawberries in the good old days!) I preferred to buy shoes at the shoe stores instead of the cheaper shoes at Bobโs War Surplus. When I was seven, I announced that I was going to be a doctor instead of a nurse because they helped people and nurses had to do bedpans and give shots. At the time I was having my second ear surgery so I was already an expert on the hospital experience. How times have changed with Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants picking up the slack in primary care medicine!ย
Moving on to writing, the hottest market in indie writing is Romance, Romance, Romance and here I am writing cozy mysteries. But itโs what I like to read and itโs what I feel most comfortable writing. Honestly, I didnโt want to write romance and sex scenes because I didnโt want to write anything I would be embarrassed to have my father read.ย
So I will continue to write comfortable and fun cozy mysteries and amateur sleuth mysteries. Killer Ghost is nearing the finish mark. I have a date with my editor and am writing like mad to keep that date!
In the meantime, enjoy the other Christieโs Flower Shoppe mysteries, and even a little Julia Fairchild!ย
Until next time, happy reading!
