Daffodils, Ukuleles, & Agatha Christie 🌺📚

It’s Spring! The birds are fighting over the worms and bugs in the grass, the blueberry bushes are budding out (finally pruned them this year for the first time after watching a YouTube video) and the daffodils are proudly showing off their yellow flowers along the driveway, with the tulips on deck for their turn. It’s still a little wet so I can’t dig in the dirt, but my pruning shears are busy tidying up the shrubs that need a bit of freshening up for bloom later.

I’ve been wanting to learn to play guitar for a few years and finally bought a baritone ukulele, thinking it would be an easy-ish transition to go from 4 strings to 6 strings. They use the same chords so maybe this will be the year I can check this off my bucket list. I know myself very well so I will also find a teacher who can keep me on task, or I’ll never make progress. Now to squeeze practice time into my days.

Speaking of ukuleles, I spent two weeks in Kihei, on the island of Maui, and thoroughly enjoyed the 80 degree weather and watching the sunset over the ocean every evening. I finally saw the “green flash,” which is a real thing—an atmospheric event, actually. Except I saw the blue version. It was a brief pinpoint blue “dot” on the tippy-top of the sun just as it ducked below the horizon. It reminded me of the old “blue dot” flashbulbs from my first instamatic camera.

Back to authoring—I’m better at writing books than marketing. Sometimes I wonder how Agatha Christie felt when she published her books. Did she ever worry about selling them? Did she write simply for the pleasure of creating and not care if anyone bought them or not? I confess that while I truly enjoy writing stories and making up stuff, I hope that there are people out there who are buying them! In the meantime, I’ll keep writing.

Until next time, happy reading!
