Autumn Has Arrived!
In the Pacific Northwest, it’s now officially autumn. We usually have a lovely and long “Indian” summer with sunshine and pleasant days until the middle of October. This year it lasted an extra 10 days but not anymore. I drove home from a (tap) dance class in one of those “atmospheric river” events. The 50 mile drive seemed much longer with water on the freeway and road splash so dense I couldn’t see white lines. Even the truckers were driving more slowly than usual.
But today is one of those sunny glorious days, which I love while I’m sitting here at my desk and enjoying the sun shine through the window. My husband is blowing leaves, which is a never-ending job from early October until the leaves finally disappear from the huge, old oak trees on our street in late November. He’s not enjoying it quite as much. That’s one of the consequences of living in a “Tree City USA.”
This time of year is perfect, however, for reading some of the books that seem to collect in the basket next to the sofa. I tend to read mysteries and have several to choose from. I also have a couple of books by new authors to read, including one by my friend Keira Maycock. It’s a psychological thriller and might remind you a bit of Gone Girl. Enjoy!
A missing woman. A suspicious husband. A sister who won’t let go.
When wealthy socialite Chérie Abendroth vanishes from her neighborhood book club, her unconcerned husband spins a story of forgetfulness and midlife unraveling. Their image-obsessed circle is quick to follow his lead.
Her estranged sister Cindy Beuerlein isn’t. Not with what she knows. She slams into town, scrambling over a mansion gate to confront him. But she is unprepared to face the shared history that knocks her off her feet.
Even missing, Chérie’s influence weaves its tendrils into Cindy’s life, destroying the future she desperately desires. When old letters surface, Cindy’s quest to find Chérie becomes a race to escape the dark secrets of the past and her own twisted decisions.
Until next time, happy reading!
