More Travels!
Summer is for vacations, even for us retired people. Well, technically, I now write books (and market them) as a job, but Iām referring to my first life and career as a physician. Iām trying to find time on the calendar for a 10-14 day driving trip to some of the national parks in my neck of the country and into Canada. Between my obligations to our local theatre board (somehow, Iām still president for the fifth year), the hospital foundation (my true love but still time-consuming with 5-6 meetings a month), and being āBoss Captainā for the biennial cabaret production in April 2025 (my third one and easier every time with fantastic committees), it is incredibly difficult to find a window of time where we can sneak away and not miss important meetings. It looks like August will work. I will MAKE it work.
One by one, Iām getting all my books transformed into audiobooks. It takes time and money but Amazon tells us that thereās a huge market for them. I occasionally listen to a book instead of reading the printed version but I find them difficult because I read much faster than the typical narrator reads. They are useful, however, when Iām on the road for a couple of hours and want something besides music for company.Ā
When I was still working, I drove to Seattle once a month for a meeting and listened to books on the way up and back. The drive was a total of about 5 hours, which wasnāt quite long enough to finish a typical book and my daily commute was about 7 minutes, which made it tough to get to the end before I forgot what had happened the previous chapter. Maybe Iāll try listening to one while Iām working a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle!
Until next time, happy reading!
